Texas Recycles Day was a BIG success!

Overall, the day was a big success with nearly 200 vehicles participating.  Here’s a rundown of what was collected.  And remember, all of these items are prevented from entering our landfill or will help those in need:

The Carrollton Evening Lions Club, collected over 80 pieces of medical equipment including eye glasses, respirators and hearing aids valued at over $12,000!

Collin County Computers and Recycling collected nearly 400 pieces of computer equipment including over a 100 printers and almost 100 Monitors!  Imagine all these items could have ended up in our landfill!  Great job Shawn Crowley, owner of Collin County Computers & Recycling.  Also great job to the citizens for being mindful of the environment.

Firestone Complete Auto collected large car batteries and over 300 small batteries as well as nearly a dozen tires.  Again, more waste saved from the landfill and disposed of properly!

The PTA made quite a haul.  The Clothes closet collected almost 1,000 pieces of clothing including shoes and coats.  The PTA Bookstore collected nearly 600 books, videos, games and CDs.  WOW!  This will go to much good use in the school district!

In addition to these major hauls, there were garden tools, metal waste and general items donate to our other vendors.  We also had some for our ladies at the Senior Center who knit caps and blankets for sick children in the hospital.

Keep Carrollton Beautiful would like to thank all those who participated, our student volunteers from CFBISD High Schools and those board members of Keep Carrollton Beautiful who sponsor the event.  None of this would have been possible without the willingness and patience of our vendors who withstood the cold wind to come to the aid of others.  This was truly a collaborative event with a positive outcome for all.
